  • Energy Storage Systems Safety Training. Free online training for the U.S. fire service. This four-hour, self-paced program effectively trains students through engaging videos, animations, simulations, and review exercises.
  • Alternative Fuel Vehicles Training Program for Emergency Responders. Free online training for the U.S. fire service on how to safely respond to incidents involving alternative fuel passenger vehicles, trucks, buses, and commercial fleet vehicles.
  • Electric Vehicle Safety for Emergency Responders Training. Free online training for the U.S. fire service on how to safely deal with emergency situations involving electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • NFPA Responder ForumFree Emergency Field Guide for U.S. fire departments on how to handle electric, hybrid, fuel cell, and gaseous fuel trucks, buses, commercial fleet and passenger vehicle challenges safely and effectively.
  • NFPA's Responder Forum brings together fire service leaders, up-and-coming first responders and subject matter experts to tackle today's emerging issues.

Public education and outreach

  • NFPA offers free tool kits to help you conduct successful community education campaigns on carbon monoxide, smoke alarms, cooking and heating safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • NFPA's Fire Sprinkler Initiative works with the fire service and other safety advocates to increase the number of new, one- and two-family homes protected by sprinklers.
Get involved with NFPA
  • Standards in Action: Your Voice Matters. NFPA is working to strengthen its outreach to the fire service, who are impacted by NFPA codes and standards on the job. If you think changes need to be made to them, we need to hear from you!
  • NFPA's Fire Service Member Section stimulates awareness of the need for continually improving programs in management, training, and education within the profession.
  • Technical Committees: Learn how to apply for an NFPA Technical Committee or Panel that develop and revise NFPA’s codes and standards every three to five years.
  • NFPA Conference & Expo is the largest annual event of its kind for the fire and life safety community, offering tremendous opportunities to network with members of the fire service throughout the country, and to stay apprised of the latest in firefighting techniques, standards, practices and technologies.
  • NFPA membership: As a member of NFPA, you have access to a wealth of resources and information, including technical support, codes and standards alerts, technology updates and professional connection that help you make the right choices on the job, and to prepare for possible outcomes.
