October is a great time to visit Myrtle Beach, and based on availability, the Sheraton Hotel will be extending our conference room rate three days prior and after our conference room block dates of October 18-24. With daytime temperatures in the 70s, you won’t want to miss out on taking some time to explore the area.
Myrtle Beach is in the heart of the Grand Strand, 60 miles of sandy beaches, but it also offers championship golf courses, is home to a number of historical museums, art galleries, landscaped gardens, theater and, of course, shopping. Here are a few attractions to check out.
Hopsewee Plantation, a South Carolina National Historic Landmark, was built almost 40 years before the Revolutionary War. With only five families having owned it, the plantation has never been allowed to decay and has always been cherished. Although still a private residence, guided tours are available. Advance purchase is highly recommended.
Brookgreen Gardens has received numerous awards and honors from magazines, TripAdvisor, AAA, USA Today and AOL Travel. This beautiful public garden is home to more than 900 works by 300 of the greatest names in American sculpture, past and present. Visitors also can explore the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve, containing acre upon acre of native plants and animals.
Some of the area’s favorite attractions will be found at Broadway at the Beach including Ripley’s Aquarium, Magiquest, and Wonderworks, an interactive science museum. It is also home to nightlife, restaurant and shopping.
The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum has its on history. It first opened to the public in June, 1997, but was originally a summer home that dates back to 1924.
