Development of Sprinkler Protection for Warehouse Storage of Lithium Ion Batteries
Benjamin Ditch, Lead Research Engineer, FM Global

Presenters: Benjamin Ditch, Lead Research Engineer, FM Global , R. Thomas Long, Jr., Corporate Vice President, Exponent, Inc.

Lithium ion batteries are an emerging hazard with a limited amount of technical studies, reports, or scientific literature to rely on when making safe installation decisions. To provide information for a potential NFPA 13 standard change, technical data on fire characteristics of cartoned Lithium ion battery and sprinkler response to fires involving Lithium ion batteries is necessary.  The webinar will review research conducted to develop sprinkler protection guidance that can be extended to a wide range of cartoned Li-ion batteries in warehouse storage.

Who will benefit: Provides technical data to help manufacturers, emergency responders, codes and standards writers, and building and fire protection systems designers design for Li-ion battery storage.
