There’s no place like home. It is a place to relax, share laughs with family, and enjoy home cooked meals. But did you know that the majority of fire deaths occur in the home? Furthermore, family members who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing may face unique challenges in an emergency putting them at even greater risk during a home fire. And in a fire, seconds count. Seconds can mean the difference between escaping safely or lives ending in tragedy.

NFPA’s 2017 Fire Prevention Week theme “Every Second Count. Plan 2 Ways Out!” is aimed to help families plan ahead and as a part of Fire Prevention Week awareness this year, NFPA has partnered with the Virginia Hands & Voices Chapter to offer free webinars to discuss this year’s theme and how it specifically applies to individuals and/or family members who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Learn how everyone your home can stay safe from fire!

Who will benefit: Agencies that serve people with disabilities and/or Deaf/hard-of-hearing, fire & life safety public educators, fire service personnel
