NFPA’s mission is to help save lives and reduce loss with information, knowledge and passion. To accomplish this goal, NFPA international outreach activities focus on bringing its technical and educational information to those regions of the world whose authorities are looking for assistance in enhancing fire, electrical and life safety. NFPA staff in the U.S.and abroad develops collaborative relationships with government, fire and life safety officials, and professional, industrial and technical organizations across the globe to promote the use and adoption of its codes and standards. Partnering with the fire service, code development and enforcement authorities, and design professionals such as architects and engineers, NFPA makes its technical information available to support countries and regions develop or enhance their codes and standards and safety practices.
Two cornerstone resources NFPA uses to encourage global use of its technical codes and standards are Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and Translation and Licensing Agreements. To foster the reciprocal exchange of technical information with its international counterparts, NFPA has signed MOUs with organizations in Latin America, Asia and Europe and is currently in discussions with organizations in other parts of the world to formally collaborate on fire, electrical and life safety issues. Additionally, in order to make its information more accessible to a wider range of people, NFPA has entered into Translation and Licensing Agreements with translators around the world. As a result, key NFPA codes and publications are now available in a variety of languages -- including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Mandarin, Korean and Japanese, among others.
