NFPA 1581: Document Scope

1.1 Scope. This standard contains minimum requirements for a fire department infection control program.

This standard provides the minimum requirements for a fire department infection control program to identify and limit the potential of an infectious exposure to fire department members during the performance of their assigned duties and within the fire department working and living environment.

What does NFPA 1581 address?

Requirements cover the identification, evaluation, control, and monitoring of risks from infectious environments at the fire station, in fire apparatus, during procedures at an incident scene, and at any other area where fire department members are involved in routine or emergency operations. Chapters cover program components; fire department facilities; fire department apparatus; protection for emergency medical service (EMS) operations; and cleaning, disinfecting, and disposal.
