What is NFPA 402?
This guide describes operational procedures for both airport and structural fire departments charged with providing and maintaining aircraft rescue and fire-fighting (ARFF) services at airports. It also is intended for use by structural fire departments to assist them in developing methods to effectively handle aircraft incidents that might occur within their jurisdiction.

Criteria cover pre-incident emergency planning, emergency response, aircraft construction and materials, evacuation and rescue, fire control and extinguishment, interior aircraft fires, miscellaneous aircraft incidents, post-aircraft accident procedures, and structural fire department operations at aircraft rescue and fire-fighting incidents.
