What is NFPA 51B?
NFPA 51B: Document Scope
1.1 Scope. 1.1.1* This standard shall cover provisions to prevent loss of life and property from fire or explosion as a result of hot work. 1.1.2 Installation and operation of arc cutting and welding equipment and operation of gas cutting and welding equipment shall be in accordance with ANSI Z49.1, Safety in Welding, Cutting, and Allied Processes.
This standard presents provisions to prevent injury, loss of life, and loss of property from fire or explosion as a result of hot work projects such as welding, heat treating, grinding, and similar applications producing or using sparks, flames, or heat. Official document scope
What does NFPA 51B address?
In addition to covering fire prevention precautions including personal protective clothing, permissible and nonpermissible areas, hot work permit, and fire watch, this document also provides criteria concerning responsibility for safety in hot work operations with regard to management, permit authorizing individuals (PAIs), hot work operators, fire watch, and contractors.
