What is NFPA 69?
NFPA 69: Document Scope
Covers the design, construction, operation, maintenance and testing of systems for the prevention of deflagration explosions by means of the following methods: (a) control of oxidant concentration; (b) control of combustible concentration; (c) explosion suppression; (d) deflagration pressure containment; (e) spark extinguishing systems.
This standard provides requirements for installing systems for the prevention and control of explosions in enclosures that contain flammable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors, mists, dusts, or hybrid mixtures. What does NFPA 69 address?
Provisions cover the following methods for explosion prevention: control of oxidant and combustible concentrations, predeflagration detection and control of ignition sources, explosion suppression, active isolation, passive isolation, deflagration pressure containment, and passive explosion suppression. Criteria are also provided for installation, inspection, and maintenance of explosion protection systems.
