What is NFPA 90A?
NFPA 90A covers construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of air conditioning and ventilating systems, including filters, ducts, and related equipment, to protect life and property from fire, smoke, and gases resulting from fire or conditions having manifestations similar to fire.

What does NFPA 90A address?
Criteria cover HVAC systems components and air distribution; integration of a ventilation and air-conditioning system with building construction, including air-handling equipment rooms, protection of openings, and fire, smoke, and ceiling dampers; manual and automatic controls; and acceptance testing in structures where:.
(1) Spaces are over 708 m3 (25,000 ft3) in volume
(2) Buildings are of Types III, IV, and V construction over three stories in height, regardless of volume
(3) Buildings and spaces that are not covered by other applicable NFPA standards
(4) Occupants or processes that are not covered by other applicable NFPA standards
