2012 NFPA 79: Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery and ICP UL 508A and Short Circuit Current Ratings 4-day Seminar

| Item # 79UL4 |
2 Seminars in 1! Top instructors teach you how to apply NFPA 79 and UL 508A to guard against fire, shock, and short circuits.
Increase your understanding and application of the 2012 NFPA 79, related NEC® rules, and the Standard for Industrial Control Panels, UL 508A. Taught by NFPA® and UL code experts, this seminar addresses the methods used to reduce risks associated with industrial machinery, including constructing Industrial Control Panels (ICPs) using UL 508A and establishing short-circuit ratings in accordance with Supplement B.
Days 1 and 2 (Monday-Tuesday)
Focus on NFPA 79
Presented by NFPA
Improve your ability to implement provisions in the 2012 NFPA 79: Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery to provide adequate levels of protection. Gain the practical knowledge and understanding you need to use NFPA 79 in conjunction with the NEC and other related documents.
Upon completion you should be able to:
- Enforce new mandates for arc-flash warning signs on power control panels
- Require that the short circuit current rating be marked on the control equipment nameplate
- Review the latest changes to the chapter on servo drives and motors
- Enforce expanded safety-related function rules for control systems
- Recognize hazards associated with industrial machines
- Explain the methods used to reduce risks and safeguard personnel
- Understand NEC requirements with regard to feeder circuits to industrial machines
- Calculate and select proper overcurrent protection in accordance with the NEC
Days 3 and 4 (Wednesday-Thursday)
UL 508A and industrial control panels
Presented by UL
Establish, identify, and calculate short-circuit ratings for individual industrial control panels in accordance with UL 508A Supplement B -- the only method specifically noted as an approved method by the 2011 NEC.
Upon completion you should be able to:
- Discuss and define power circuit and control circuit construction requirements
- Define and apply appropriate electrical spacing between uninsulated parts of components
- Determine proper segregation of insulated conductors of separate circuits
- Explain panel rating and marking requirements
