Use the 2005 NFPA 720: Standard for the Installation of Household Carbon Monoxide (CO) Warning Equipment to stay up-to-date on requirements for the selection, installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment that detects concentrations of carbon monoxide that could pose a risk to the health of most occupants in dwelling units.

This Standard covers:

• Requirements for single- and multiple-station CO alarms and for CO detectors used as a part of a system
• Requirements for location and placement within a dwelling
• Requirements for performance, including audible and visible signaling to occupants
• Requirements on the installation, use, and maintenance of CO-warning equipment
• Information on the sources and dangers of CO

With the publication of the 2005 edition of NFPA 720, the document changes from a Recommended Practice to a Standard.
