Written by fire department physicians for fire department physicians, NFPA 1582: Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments contains descriptive requirements for a comprehensive occupational medical program to ensure that fire department members are medically capable of performing their required duties.
The standard provides medical requirements for candidates and occupational medical and fitness evaluations for incumbent fire fighters. Requirements are equated against the essential job tasks as outlined in NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications and apply to career, volunteer, private, industrial, governmental, and military fire departments.
