Using the 2010 edition of NFPA 72® as a guide, you will focus primarily on the planning, design, approval, installation, testing, and use of fire detection and alarm systems. The seminar also includes some of the key elements of single- and multiple-station alarms and household fire alarm systems. You are sure to find a wealth of practical tips through this interactive seminar's dynamic discussions and helpful exercises.
Avoid installation errors, failed inspections and false alarms! Upon completion you should be able to:
- Navigate the new NFPA 72 format to find needed code provisions.
- Identify key changes in the 2010 edition of NFPA 72 including new chapters on Circuits and Pathways and Emergency Control Functions and Interfaces.
- Use key NFPA 72 definitions to help interpret specific code requirements.
- Identify the key elements of all phases of a fire alarm system's life.
- Identify the stakeholders at different stages of a fire alarm system's life.
- Recognize the function of major fire alarm system components.
- Locate and apply key fire detection requirements for emergency control functions such as door control and elevator recall.
- Calculate the required spacing and determine the correct placement of fire detection devices for both Protected Premises Fire Alarm Systems and for Single- and Multiple-Station Alarms and Household Fire Alarm Systems.
- Apply detector and strobe spacing rules that will allow you reduce installation costs and increase effectiveness.
- Determine the required spacing and location of notification appliances for different fire alarm notification strategies.
- Calculate power supply requirements for fire alarm systems.
- Apply the basic installation and wiring requirements for fire detection and alarm equipment.
- Develop a visual inspection and component testing plan for a given fire alarm system that complies with the requirements of NFPA 72.
