This self-paced online course covers changes to NFPA 72® Chapter 1 - "Administration," Chapter 2 - "Referenced Publications," and Chapter 3 - "Definitions." The 2007 edition of NFPA 72: National Fire Alarm Code® has emerged in response to the heightened risk awareness and sophisticated technical advances to improve the role of alarm and signaling systems in protecting life and property.
Upon completion you should be able to:
- Explain what a mass notification system (MNS) is and how emergency warning equipment is used
- Clarify the unit of measure used in the code
- List the specific requirements needed for fire alarm system drawings
- Define the key new terms used in the NFPA 72, including fire alarm systems, fire alarm control units, alarm signals, building fire alarm systems, fire detectors, trouble signals, wide area signaling, and dedicated function fire alarm systems
- Define the fundamentals of fire alarm systems including battery marking, trouble signals, and compatibility
- List the new qualifications for system designers and system installers
- Explain the new requirements for protection of fire alarm systems including system annunciation and zoning, performance of circuits, amplifiers, tone generators, planned impairments, emergency impairments, use of impairment tags
