This self-paced online course covers how different fire protection systems impact life safety and emergency defense. Students will learn about code-based requirements for automatic systems, notification of emergency forces, and impairment control. Unique aspects of automatic systems for health care occupancies are discussed, as well as alternative approaches allowed by NFPA 101®: Life Safety Code®.
Upon completion you should be able to:
- The requirements for automatic sprinkler systems, including code-based sprinkler equivalencies, quick-response sprinklers, and sprinkler supervision
- The requirements for smoke detection, including when alternatives to automatic smoke detection are allowed and requirements for occupant notification
- To list and describe requirements for notification of emergency forces
- The requirements for impairment control, including code-specified and alternative approaches and compensatory measures
