Health Care Risk Primer Self Guided Online Course

This self-paced online course covers the life safety risks from fire and other hazards in health care occupancies and explores how codes and standards minimize the risk. In health care occupancies there is a high likelihood that the occupants may not be able to take action for their own self-preservation, even when awake.

Upon completion you should be able to:

• Understand and define "health care occupancy"
• Explain the level of risk represented by four common hazards present at a health care occupancy, including alternative power controls, electrical shock, medical gas systems, and fires
• List and explain the two key pbjectives for life safety in health care occupancies established by NFPA 101®: Life Safety Code®
• Explain the "defend in place" strategy adopted by the Life Safety Code
• Describe how the vulnerable nature of health care occupants affects risk evaluation for health care occupancies
• Explain how the property characteristics of health care occupancies affects the risk they present
