This self-paced online course covers the requirements for an emergency plan and defines the requisite training, drills and exercises. Contingency planning is a required part of health care occupancy operations. Both NFPA® and JCAHO require the development of a written emergency plan, emergency plan training, and emergency plan drills and exercises.
Upon completion you should be able to:
- List and explain the elements that should be addressed by an effective emergency plan
- Define and explain key plan elements, including chain of command, communication, specified procedures for certain identified hazards, and information about emergency supplies
- Explain the importance of emergency training and drills for all staff members
- Explain the importance and required elements of comprehensive emergency exercises
