Grounding and Bonding Self Guided Online Course

This self-paced online course explains National Electrical Code® requirements for grounding and bonding. These two processes -- which are related and overlapping but not the same -- are important parts of fulfilling the NEC®'s overall purpose of protecting of persons and property from hazards arising from the use electricity.

Students will be able to:

• Distinguish between grounding and bonding.
• Explain the significance of performance requirements and prescriptive rules.
• Understand the importance of an effective ground-fault current path.
• Define and explain the key elements of a grounding and bonding system.
• Understand how these elements are combined to create an effective system design.
• Understand some of the details of system grounding, bonding and equipment grounding.
• Understand why and how materials in addition to electrical equipment must be bonded.

Anyone whose job involves designing, reviewing, evaluating or installing electrical systems, including: designers, installers, engineers, electrical contractors, technicians, project managers, fire marshals, and architects.
