- When searching by catalog item #, be sure to include dashes where appropriate. For example: '7011SB', '10109', or 'LH-47208'
- When searching for a code, enter NFPA followed by the code number. For example: 'NFPA 30B' or 'NFPA 70'.

Which web browsers will work in the NFPA Store?
Is it safe to use my credit card?
The NFPA online catalog uses industry standard security with an SSL certificate. This secures your credit card information once it reaches our server. The browser program you have on your computer comprises the other half of the security picture. You can see if your browser can create a 'secure handshake' with the secure server by looking for the picture of the padlock in the bottom of your browser window. If the padlock is in the closed and locked position when you are on the payment screen, then you have a secure connection. If you do not see the closed padlock, then you may need to upgrade your browser software. Of course you can always place your order over the telephone by calling 1-800-344-3555. Which credit cards does NFPA accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
Can I pay by purchase order?
Yes. NFPA allows all orders placed on its Online Catalog to be paid by credit card, and now allows some orders to be billed, subject to credit approval. Please see our Payment Policy for specific details regarding making payments using a PO or bill me request.
How much is shipping & handling?
For orders with shippable goods, NFPA will add a $9.95 handling fee to orders under $1000, or 2% of merchandise total for orders of $1000 or more. Additional charges for express shipping charges (if requested), and 7.00% sales tax (for California residents only.)* The NFPA online catalog does not have a way to calculate expedited shipping costs at this time. If you select US standard delivery, NFPA pays the shipping. For expedited (rush) orders, the warehouse calculates the most cost effective method to send your order. We charge you the exact cost to us. Your credit card is not charged until the items are shipped. What is NFPA's guarantee?

What if I have a problem with my order?

How long will it take me to receive my order by mail?
Your order will take approximately 7-10 days in North America. Special shipping services may be arranged for the extra shipping charge. NFPA will work to get you the lowest rate possible. If you have further questions, please call our Customer Sales Department at 1-800-344-3555 or 1-617-770-3000 if outside the U.S.
Does NFPA offer a member discount?
Yes; 10% will be deducted from the subtotal of your order if you are an NFPA member and login with your NFPA ID number or email address and the password for your profile. To Login, click on the Yellow tab labelled 'Sign In'. If you are not logged in, the catalog check out process will prompt you to login when you click the 'Checkout' button. You may also join online to receive the member discount.
If you were an NFPA member as of September, 2001, you should have received a mailing with your login and password for the new NFPA web site and catalog. If you did not receive the letter, you can call Customer Service at 1-800-344-3555.
How can I get the quantity discount?
Many of our products have discounts when you buy multiple copies of them. You'll see that this is available if there is a link titled 'Quantity Pricing Information' on the product detail page. In order to receive the discount, you'll need to:
- Add the desired product to your shopping cart
- On the Shopping Cart page, Modify the quantity as desired
- click "Recalculate"

I got a message about secure and non-secure pages. What does this mean?
Certain browser configurations and ISPs will post alert messages (such as "the site contains both secure and non-secure content") when users move from secure pages to non-secure pages and back. The only parts of this site that require security are those in which you enter your credit card number information. This portion of our website is hosted on a secure server. We use HTTPS (Secure HTTP) Protocol to ensure that ordering information is sent directly to NFPA, and that only NFPA can decode it. You can always order by calling NFPA Customer Sales at 1-800-344-3555 (1-617-770-3000 if outside the U.S) Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM, Eastern Time.
I logged in as the letter instructed me to, but now the password doesn't work.
The first time you signed in to the new www.nfpa.org web site, you were prompted to change your login to your email address, and to enter a new password. Please use that new password whenever you are prompted by the site to enter it. If you have lost or forgotten your password, look for "Forgot your password?" on the sign in page and follow the instructions to request that your password be sent to the email address listed in your NFPA Online profile.
Why do I have to sign in now to complete a purchase? I never had to do this before.
NFPA has updated its entire web site and catalog. We offer a number of member, subscriber and customer benefits that involve having an online profile of all the information about your membership or subscription:
- We store your address (as many as you want to add to your address book.)
- We do not store your credit card.
- PDF files you purchase are available to you for 7 days following your purchase via your Sign In.
- Your Profile will speed your next purchase.
- Although we would like to use the information in your profile to tell you about savings offers and other pertinent information about NFPA and other related companies, we respect your privacy. You can always tell us not to send any unsolicited emails to you by updating your profile.
I came to the NFPA online catalog, signed in and there were items in my shopping cart.
The web site may save items in your cart from a previous visit. If you don't want them, simply click the 'Empty Cart' button on the shopping cart page. Each line item in the cart has a 'Delete' button in the left most column as an alternative.
I don't know if my order went through.

I'm not sure how to find the product I need.
There are 2 ways to locate products in the Online catalog:
- You can browse the Catalog Index in the gray left-hand column. Most categories include subcategories to help you browse by topic. The subcategories are useful to reduce the number of pages listed with items in the category.
- You can also use the Search located in the search box in the top right under the main navigation. Type in an NFPA item number, or a code number such as 'NFPA 13', or keywords such as 'sprinkler' or 'protective clothing' and click the GO button. Your search results will appear in the right side of the screen. If there is only one product that matches your search, you will see the product detail information. Otherwise, you will see a table. Please note, there may be more than one page of results. Use the 'Next' and 'Previous' links to move from page to page.
Information about NFPA PDF Files
Portable Document Format (PDF) files are widely used to distribute files across a wide range of computer systems. This format retains the look and content of the page in a cross-platform world. To read these files you will need to install the free software Adobe Reader from Adobe Systems (www.adobe.com). NFPA does not provide support for either Adobe Reader or other Adobe products. PDF files are intended for viewing on the computer and printing. They are not editable.
