This standard provides requirements and conditions for use in determining that spaces on vessels and within shipyards that are subject to concentrations of combustible, flammable, or toxic liquids, vapors, gases, chemicals are safe for entry or work, as documented by a Marine Chemist's Certificate.
Criteria apply to confined space entry and work activities including application or removal of preservative coatings and hot work operations including:, riveting, cutting, welding, burning, and other fire-producing operations. Topics covered include what vessels are required to have a Marine Chemist's Certificate, how such certificates are issued and maintained, standard safety designations and conditions required, what to expect during an inspection, and how prepare the vessel for inspection and survey by a NFPA Certificated Marine Chemist.
