What is NFPA 67?
NFPA 67: Document Scope

1.1 Scope. 1.1.1 This guide applies to the design, installation, and operation of piping systems containing flammable gases where there is a potential for ignition. 1.1.2 This guide addresses protection methods for use where the pipe explosion risk is due to either a deflagration or a detonation. 1.1.3 This guide does not apply to runaway reactions, decompositions, or oxidants other than oxygen.

This guide provides criteria for the design, installation, and operation of piping systems that contain or may contain flammable vapor mixtures to prevent and protect against damage from deflagrations or detonations due to combustion of flammable atmospheres therein.

Official document scope
What does NFPA 67 address?

In addition to a discussion of the fundamentals of deflagrations and principles of detonations, the document provides requirements designed to prevent, contain, suppress, and/or vent explosions; avoid deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT); prevent and contain detonations, and minimize damage due to explosions. Chapters on management of change and installation, inspection, and maintenance are also included.
