What is NFPA 1852?
This standard establishes requirements for the selection, care, and maintenance of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as required by the respiratory protection program in NFPA 1500: Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program to reduce health and safety risks associated with improper maintenance, contamination, or damage.

What does NFPA 1852 address?
Provisions apply to open-circuit SCBA and combination SCBA/supplied air respirator (SAR) that are used for respiratory protection during emergency operations in environments where the atmosphere is Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH), or could become oxygen deficient or IDLH. Topics covered include respiratory protection program components, selection guidelines, cleaning and disinfecting, contamination and decontamination, storage, testing, and maintenance.
