What is NFPA 1917?
NFPA 1917: Document Scope
1.1* Scope. This standard shall define the minimum requirements for the design, performance, and testing of new automotive ambulances used for out-of-hospital medical care and patient transport. A.1.1 The term new as applied in this standard is intended to refer to the original construction of an ambulance using all new materials and parts.
Developed with consideration of the Federal Specification KKK-A-1822 and NFPA 1901: Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, NFPA 1917 defines the minimum requirements for the design, performance, and testing of new automotive ambulances intended for use under emergency conditions to provide medical treatment and transportation of sick or injured people to appropriate medical facilities. What does NFPA 1917 address?
The Standard presents general requirements for ambulance design and performance, along with standalone chapters for ambulance components, including chassis, patient compartment, low voltage electrical systems and warning devices, and line voltage electrical systems.
