This recommended practice provides enforcement officials with a field means of determining the tendency of textiles and films to sustain burning subsequent to the application of a relatively small open flame. It is to be used for materials for which reliable laboratory data are not available.
Recommendations apply to materials used in the interior of buildings, for protective outdoor coverings, and for plastic films used for decorative or other purposes inside buildings or as temporary or permanent enclosures for buildings under construction. It is intended for two types of materials: 1) those made entirely of noncombustible inorganic material and 2) those that ignite and burn readily on exposure to a small flame.
