Performance-Based Standard for Fire Protection for Light Water Reactor Electric Generating Plants
What is NFPA 805?
This standard specifies the minimum fire protection requirements for existing light water nuclear power plants during all phases of plant operation, including shutdown, degraded conditions, and decommissioning in order to protect the safety of the public, the environment, and plant personnel from a plant fire and its potential effect on safe reactor operations.
Official document scope
What does NFPA 805 address?
A methodology is described for applying performance-based requirements, fundamental fire protection program design and elements, determination of fire protection systems and features, and fire protection during decommissioning and permanent shutdown of light water reactor electric generating plants. NFPA 805 also provides the requirements for the engineering analyses used to establish the required fire protection systems and features.
