What is NFPA 82?
NFPA 82: Document Scope
1.1 Scope. 1.1.1 This standard covers requirements for the installation, maintenance, and use of waste and recyclables storage rooms, containers, handling systems, incinerators, compactors, and linen and laundry handling systems. 1.1.2 This standard does not include design criteria for the purpose of reducing air pollution. For such criteria, consult the authorities having jurisdiction. 1.1.3 The requirements in this standard shall not apply to one- or two-family residential structures.
This standard presents the minimum fire protection requirements for the construction, installation, maintenance, and use of waste and recyclables storage rooms, containers, handling systems, incinerators, compactors, and linen and laundry handling systems. Official document scope
What does NFPA 82 address?
Comprehensive coverage includes requirements for incinerator chimney construction and installation; transport systems for waste and linen chutes, including gravity, full pneumatic and gravity pneumatic conveying systems; waste spillage control and enclosure; automatic sprinklers for waste compactors; fire separation for waste and recyclables storage rooms; and maintenance issues associated with waste and linen handling systems and equipment.
