What is a PDF?

Portable Document Format (PDF) files are widely used to distribute files across a wide range of computer systems. This format retains the look and content of the page in a cross-platform world. To read these files you will need to install the free software Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe Systems. (NFPA does not provide support for either Adobe Reader or other Adobe products. PDF files are intended for viewing on the computer and printing. They are not editable.

How do I download my PDF after purchase?

Register on NFPA's website or log in to your existing nfpa.org account. Please record your login and password - you will need it to access and download your NFPA documents.

Once you have completed your purchase transaction, follow the steps below to save your document. Please note that steps 3 & 4 only need to be completed one time.

  1. Find the document you would like to download in the PDFs purchased list.
  2. Click the "DOWNLOAD" link to the right of the PDF. When downloading, take note of the PDF file size; larger PDFs can take a considerable amount of time to download, especially on slower internet connections.
  3. A popup window will appear that contains the NFPA license terms. You must accept the license terms before you can download your PDF.
  4. A second pop-up window will appear with the watermarking tool. Verify that the information contained in the "owner" and "designated user" sections is correct. Make any changes to this information at this time, as once you accept the watermark and license information, this watermark will be permanently applied to your PDF.
  5. When prompted, save the file to your computer so you will have continued access to the file. It is recommended that you create a dedicated folder for all NFPA documents.

Once you accept the license terms and watermark, you can download your PDF again without having to repeat steps 3 & 4. Any future download of your PDF will display the permanent watermark. You can now locate the PDF on your device and open it like any other file.
