Fire safety for people with disabilities
In February 2007, the Center for High-Risk Outreach hosted the Fire Safety for People with Disabilities Task Force meeting in Long Beach, CA.

Champion conference in Mexico
The Center held its annual Mexican Champions conference in Dallas in November. The Champions have introduced the Spanish-language preschool fire safety curriculum,  Mis Primeros Pasos, and the Spanish-language older adult fire and fall safety program,  Los Buenos Recuerdos, to a number of classrooms and communities.

Champions Carlos Manuel Coronado Torres (left) and Sergio Arreola Oviedo and the other champions received training to qualify them on NFPA 1035, Standard for Professional Development for Fire and Life Safety Educator.

 

National Black Child Development Institute
The NFPA Center for High-Risk Outreach recently participated in the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) 2006 Annual Conference in Miami. The NBCDI is an organization for professionals and parents working to improve the lives of children, youth and families.

During a session entitled "Overcoming Barriers to Early Childhood Education in Rural South Africa," Puleng Lydia Motsoeneng, (left), Director of Northern Free State Early Childhood Development Program in South Africa, and Bonny Ntsoeleng, Coordinator, Parent Program, Ntataise, South Africa, led a group in an African song used by educators to help stimulate new ideas. Motsoeneng and Ntsoeleng work for a program that trains women to become early childhood educators.
