Keeping Your Community Safe and Warm
Heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fires during the winter months. According to the most recent NFPA research report, heating equipment was involved in an estimated 62,200 reported U.S. home structure fires, causing 670 civilian deaths, 1,550 civilian injuries, and $909 million in direct property damage.
As respected members of the community, fire- and life-safety professionals are our best resource to teach people how to prevent home-heating fires. That's why NFPA has developed "Keeping Your Community Safe and Warm."
Every fire department in the United States has been mailed a CD which contains a toolkit of support materials to help them conduct successful heating-safety campaigns in their communities. Those resources include:
Fill-in-the-blank news release
Fill-in-the-blank Op/Ed
Fill-in-the-blank letter to the editor
Printable safety spots (PSA cartoons)
