Keep Your Community Safe and Energized
Flipping a light switch. Plugging in a coffeemaker. Charging a laptop computer. In 2008, these activities are second nature for most of us. Electrical appliances and devices make our lives easier. However, our trust in them should not be absolute.
Electrical distribution and lighting equipment were involved in an estimated 20,900 reported home structure fires in 2005. These fires resulted in 500 civilian deaths and 1,100 civilian injuries, with $862 million in direct property damage. Electricity is safe to have in the home if it is treated with respect. NFPA needs your help to ground your community in the basics of electrical safety.
Every fire department in the United States has been mailed a CD which contains a toolkit of support materials to help them conduct successful electrical safety campaigns in their communities. Those resources include:
