Sparky's Safety Spots

Sparky's Safety Spots are brief safety messages delivered by Sparky the Fire Dog® that can help you increase the awareness of safety hazards in your community. NFPA provides this artwork to fire departments at no charge so long as they are used exclusively as educational tools. The Spots are intended for year round use and are designed as print public service announcements (PSAs) to be included in local newspapers.

But don´t stop with your local newspapers. After you've asked news editors to provide space to run the Spots at no charge, try these other ideas as well:

• Team up with local retailers and print the spots on paper or plastic grocery bags, fast-food restaurant tray liners, and on flyers. Ask local veterinarians or dog-groomers to provide them to customers.
• Reduce the size of the Spots and ask your local librarian to print them on slim bookmarks.
• Provide camera-ready Spots to local utilities and request that they reprint them on inserts included with utility bills (especially good for heating safety).
• Talk with lay leaders at places of worship and urge them to print the PSAs in newsletters.
