The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has developed a complimentary distance learning course:

Introduction to Fire Risk Assessment
This five hour equivalent course is presented free of charge by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Development of the course was supported by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This course was developed primarily for fire service and fire prevention officers, but may be of value to many engineers and students would like to understand fire risk assessment and presented by
 William E. Koffel, Jr., P.E. The full course consists of 19 lecture sessions each of which can be viewed in about 15 minutes.

Online Terrorist Awareness Course for First Responders
Target Safety and NFPA have joined forces to provide convenient, cost-effective training to help alert all first responders to signs of terrorist activity. A certificate is provided upon completion of the following four modules:

  • Module 1 - An overview of terrorism and a detailed look at various terrorist weapons.
  • Module 2 - Incidents and Indicators, including recognizing suspicious incidents, key indicators, warning signs and detection clues.
  • Module 3 - Self-Protection - Types of potential harm and means of protection.
