Certified Fire Inspector I and II/Certified Fire Plan Examiner

The NFPA Fire Inspector I and II (CFI-I and CFI-II) and Fire Plan Examiner (CFPE) certification programs are a result of requests by fire inspectors, plan reviewers, state agencies, and national organizations to develop certifications founded on the NFPA Professional Qualification Standards and other applicable NFPA codes and standards. 

Fire Inspector I & Fire Inspector II certification programs – new exams
Effective 9/1/2009 the existing Fire Inspector I & II examinations will be retired and will no longer be available. The new updated examinations will be based on NFPA 1031, 2009 edition, Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner.

The Fire Inspector I program will be upgraded to the following code editions:

• NFPA 1, 2009 Ed.-Fire Code
• NFPA 13, 2007 Ed.-Installation of Sprinkler Systems
• NFPA 25, 2008 Ed.-Insp, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems
• NFPA 72, 2007 Ed.-National Fire Alarm Code®
• NFPA 101, 2009 Ed.-Life Safety Code®

The Fire Inspector II program will be upgraded to the following code editions:
All of the above codes and the following:

• NFPA 24, 2007 Ed.-Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances
• NFPA 220, 2009 Ed.-Types of Building Construction
