Russ Fleming receives prestigious Lamb Award

  Russ Fleming, executive vice president of the National Fire Sprinkler Association receives NFPA's highest honor for volunteer service, the 2006 Paul C. Lamb Award. Mr. Fleming was presented the award by NFPA Chairman George Ockuly.

June 4, 2006 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) selected Russ Fleming, executive vice president of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) to receive its highest honor for volunteer service, the 2006 Paul C. Lamb Award. Fleming received his award at NFPA’s World Safety Conference & Exposition ® in Orlando this week.

Named in honor of a man recognized for a long career in fire protection and his many years of dedication to NFPA, the award is a tribute to Lamb’s legacy of service that is a benchmark for all NFPA volunteers to strive for in the future. The Paul C. Lamb Award has only been given to 17 individuals since its inception in 1980. It recognizes personal characteristics such as leadership skills, tact and diplomacy, straightforwardness, professional integrity and active dedication to the goals of NFPA.

Fleming has spent all but two years of his career at the National Fire Sprinkler Association and has been involved with NFPA since 1975. Over the years, Fleming has served as a member of 20 different NFPA technical committees, as a member of the NFPA Standards Council, and was the council’s chairman from 1992 through 1998. He has served as a member of the NFPA Board of Directors from 1999 through 2005 and has participated in technical steering committees of the NFPA’s Fire Protection Research Foundation. He has also been a contributor to several NFPA publications. Fleming was awarded the Standards Medal, the NFPA’s highest technical honor, in 1998.

The mission of the international nonprofit organization is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.
