NFPA appoints Safer as southern regional manager

September 3, 2008 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has appointed Randy Safer of Gallatin, Tennessee as southern regional manager, replacing Olin Greene who is retiring after 15 years. In his new role, Safer will work toward improving fire, building, and life safety in his region by working with local authorities, to promote NFPA services and the adoption of NFPA codes and standards. He will also support research and public education, and participate in other activities related to fire safety that pertain to his region.

The southern region that Safer will oversee includes: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Safer brings nearly 30 years of fire service experience to his new position. Most recently, he served as director of Codes Enforcement in the State Fire Marshal’s Office for the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance. He served as chief operations officer and oversaw statewide operations and activities, including fire and building codes enforcement, plans review, and modular building program.

His fire service career began at the Beaumont Fire Department in Texas before he relocated to Hendersonville, Tennessee, where he served as deputy fire chief and eventually assumed the dual role of fire chief and deputy fire chief.

Safer holds a bachelors degree from Lamar University in Beaumont Texas.
