Topics include NFPA’s 2009 Conference & Exposition

May 11, 2009 —The latest issue of NFPA Journal®, the official magazine of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), focuses on NFPA’s 2009 Conference & Expo  which will be held in Chicago from June 8-11 .

Formerly the World Safety Conference & Exposition®, the renamed and revamped NFPA Conference & Expo is an experience packed with education sessions, pre-conference seminars, technical meetings, the 2009 Conference Expo, tours, and special performances.

The latest issue of the NFPA Journal provides a roundup of proposed changes to selected codes and standards in this year's revision cycle, as well as session highlights, a look at how communities are battling arson, and a call to join the sprinkler fight.

NFPA Journal’s May/June 2009 issue also includes the following features:

NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code
One of the most anticipated code discussions at this year's conference is focused on NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code, which was undergone an array of significant changes.

Fire Protection at the Speed of Light
A pre-conference highlight is the behind-the-scenes tour of Fermilab, where fire protection involves tunnels, ultra-high voltage, antimatter, and a Project X.

Out of the Ashes
McCormick Place, home to this year’s NFPA conference, is a very different—and safer—facility than the original version, which was destroyed by fire in 1967. A Chicago architect examines the legacy of the old McCormick, and how it shaped the creation of the new.

NFPA has been a worldwide leader in providing fire, electrical, building, and life safety to the public since 1896. The mission of the international nonprofit organization is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.
