May 26, 2011 – The Fire Protection Research Foundation, (FPRF) an affiliate of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), has announced the 2011 Bigglestone Award for Excellence in Communication of Fire Protection Concepts is going to Robert Jansson and Lars Borstrom for their paper, “The Influence of Pressure in the Pore System on Fire Spalling of Concrete.”
The Harry C. Bigglestone award is presented annually, along with a $5,000 cash prize, to the authors of the most outstanding paper submitted to Fire Technology during the previous calendar year, as voted by the International Editorial Board.
This year, Fire Technology marks the 25th Anniversary of the award, which will be recognized at NFPA’s Conference & Expo in Boston from June 12 – 15. FPRF’s Kathleen Almand and Jack Watts of the Fire Safety Institute will present, “Bigglestone Award Retrospective: 25 Years of Advances in Fire Protection Engineering and Research,” highlighting eight of the 25 winning papers. They will also summarize and reflect on the changes in the science and practice of fire safety research and engineering since each was written.
This award is named after the late Harry C. Bigglestone, a trustee of the Fire Protection Research Foundation and a fellow and president of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
