May 4, 2011 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) have joined together to provide new workshops for electrical inspectors, installers, and engineers. The seminars will cover topics related to NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code® (NEC); NFPA 79®, Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery; and UL’s 508A, Standard for Industrial Control Panels and Short Circuit Current Ratings.
The one-day seminar, the National Electrical Code for Photovoltaics, will advise attendees on design practices, and the installation and inspection of photovoltaic systems. Those who register in 2011 will receive free six months of access to necplus®, the online subscription to the NEC. Attendees will also receive free seminar materials, including a copy of NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code (NEC), 2011 Edition and a seminar workbook.
The seminar will be heading to the following locations:
- May 10 – Nashville, Tenn.
- June 21 – Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
- November 15 – Las Vegas
- November 29 – Dallas

The seminar on NFPA 79, Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery will be offered on its own or in a bundled package with the UL seminar on UL 508A and Short Circuit Current Ratings (SCCR). NFPA’s seminar will detail concepts and requirements for electrical safety and their application to industrial machinery, while UL’s will cover how to install industrial control panels and establish their short-circuit ratings. Dates and locations for the package deal are:
- September 12-15– Quincy, Mass.
- September 19-22– Ann Arbor, Mich.
- October 10-13– Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.
- October 17-20– Brea, Calif.
- October 31-November 3 – Raleigh, N.C.
- November 7-10 – Northbrook, Ill.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for all these seminars.
