NFPA offers Fire Prevention Week webinar

Free session will explain how to use resources and materials, and offer an opportunity to ask questions

August 31, 2011 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is hosting a free Fire Prevention Week webinar on September 14 from 12:00-1:00 pm (EST). Participants will receive a guided tour through the website, highlighting free materials, ideas for fun activities, tools for reaching high-risk audiences, and tips on what makes an effective campaign. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and share thoughts on Fire Prevention Week.

“The first step towards running a successful Fire Prevention Week campaign is preparation,” said Judy Comoletti, division manager of Public Education. “With this free webinar, we hope to equip participants with advice, resources, and educational materials so their campaigns can be tailor-made for their communities. We are also looking forward to fielding any thoughts or questions the audience might have about Fire Prevention Week.”

For nearly ninety years, NFPA has dedicated an entire week to educating the public about fire safety and prevention. Past Fire Prevention Week themes have covered topics such as smoke alarms, burns, and escape planning.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week (October 9-15) is about protecting families and their homes from fire. Kids, parents, members of the fire service, and educators can utilize important safety tips, media materials, online resources, and how-to guides through the Fire Prevention Week website.

About Fire Prevention Week

NFPA has been the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week since 1922. According to the National Archives and Records Administration's Library Information Center, Fire Prevention Week is the longest running public health and safety observance on record. The President of the United States has signed a proclamation proclaiming a national observance during that week every year since 1925.
