Report: NFPA's "Home Fires Involving Incinerators and Commercial Compactors"
Author: John R. Hall, Jr.
Issued: July 2009

This report provides statistics on home and non-home fires involving incinerators and commercial compactors as equipment involved in ignition.

Abstract

In 2006, an estimated 690 reported home structure fires, all of them confined fires, involved incinerators, and an estimated 1,670 reported home structure fires, nearly all of them confined fires, involved commercial compactors.

These estimates are based on data from the U.S. Fire Administration’s (USFA’s) National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA’s) annual fire department experience survey.
