Risk
Watch Safe Community program was created with the goal
of reaching more kids with the Risk Watch program’s
life-saving messages.
To become a Risk
Watch Safe
Community, a community must be using at least one of NFPA’s Risk
Watch programs (Risk Watch: Unintentional Injuries, Risk Watch:
Natural Disasters or Ready for Risk Watch.) The community must
have a small coalition of people working to implement Risk Watch in a community
and one person must be designated as the local contact. Each year, a Risk
Watch community-wide event, such as a safety fair, bike rodeo, Risk
Watch education day or a child passenger safety seat inspection, must be held.
By making Risk
Watch a community initiative, it opens the door to work
with many different organizations and reach children through ways other
than the classroom. The program also encourages individuals and community
groups to participate in keeping kids safe.
