Risk Watch Lesson Plans

Risk Watch Alphabet Book
Grades 1-2

Always swim with and adultObjective

  • Students will be able to create an alphabet book based on the eight risk areas addressed in Risk Watch.

Subject Integration

  • Language arts, art, health and safety

Cross the street with a grown-upMaterials

  • Risk Watch curriculum
  • drawing paper
  • pencils, markers or crayons
  • binder

Procedure

  1. Assign each student a letter of the alphabet.
  2. On a separate piece of paper, have each student write a sentence containing a Risk Watch safety message. Explain that the sentence must start with a word that starts with their assigned letter (e.g. "A" is for "Always swim with an adult." "B" is for "Buckle up in the back seat." "C" is for "Cross the street with a grown-up.", etc.).
  3. Give each child a piece of drawing paper. Have him/her draw the assigned letter on the left-hand side, write their sentence at the bottom and complete a drawing that reflects the safety message.
  4. Collect the drawings, laminate the pages, and bind them in a booklet for the classroom.
