Risk Watch: Make Time For Safety

Safety Mobile
Grades 3-4

Objective

  • Students can help "put out a fire" by creating a safety mobile.

Core Subject Integration

  • Art, health and safety

Materials

  • one 3 *" x 10" piece of white construction paper per student
  • colored construction paper
  • colored pencils, pens, makers
  • scissors
  • three  pieces of string per student (5", 7" & 9")

Procedure

  1. Give each student a 3 *" x 10" piece of white construction paper and have him or her write, "Safety Mobile" on it. 
  2. Using the construction paper, and coloring supplies, create three images: a bucket filled with water, a water droplet, and a flame.
  3. Give each student three pieces of string (5", 7" & 9")
  4. Using the three-hole punch, make three holes on the bottom of the 3 *" x 10" piece of construction paper.
  5. Tie the 5" piece of string to the first hole on the left side of the construction paper.  Tie the 7" piece of string to the middle hole on the construction paper.  Tie the 9" piece of string to the last hole on the right side of the construction paper.
  6. Using the three-hole punch, make a hole in each of the three images.
  7. Tie the bucket on the 5" string attached to the left hole. Tie the water droplet to the 7" string, which is attached to the center hole. Tie the flame to the 9" string, which is attached to the right hole.
  8. Once the Safety Mobile is all put together, you an display them in the classroom or in your home to promote safety!
