Procedure
- Create a list of multiple-choice questions regarding safety.
- Brainstorm a class list of activities people do in the summer.
- Discuss possible risks people may encounter when taking part in these activities.
- Introduce the "Who Wants to Have a Safe Summer?" Game.
- Students will take turns answering multiple-choice questions about summer
safety. If they have trouble, they can use one of three lifelines written on the
chalkboard-ask the audience (class will vote on the correct answer with a show
of hands), 50:50 (two incorrect answers are removed), or phone a friend (ask anyone
in the room for help, or call the office for principle assistance).
- Once a lifeline has been used, it is removed from the board. At the end of
the game, review the safety tips and allow children to share ideas or stories
about the topics covered.
- Note: This activity can be adapted for younger students by using two possible
answers instead of four, and adding extra graphics for the non-readers.
