What's Your Fortune?

  • Students will apply their understanding of ratio and probability while reinforcing important Risk Watch safety messages.

Procedure

  1. Following a math lesson on ratio and probability, distribute the "What's Your Fortune?" Worksheet and Fortune Sheet.
  2. Have students complete the worksheet.

Expand the lesson!

  1. Expand the lesson by cutting out the fortunes from the Fortune Sheet and putting them into a bag or box
  2. Conduct an experiment by asking students to reach into the bag for a message, record the message on the Tally Sheet, and return the message to the bag. Continue pulling messages from the bag a total of 42 times. Review the Tally Sheet and compare/contrast the probability students determined on the "What's Your Fortune?" Worksheet with the actual outcome of the experiment.
