Fire Safety Quilt

Fire Safety Quilt photoObjective

  • Students will be able to construct a fire safety quilt to display important fire safety tips with other students.

Core Subject Integration

  • Art and health

Materials

  • plastic lids
  • pipe cleaners
  • hole punch
  • scissors
  • markers and crayons
  • colored paper
  • gold and white doilies

Procedure

  1. Students (teacher, teacher's aide, parent volunteers may assist students if needed) punch holes in lids.
  2. Draw and color fire safety tips on various colors of paper with markers and crayons.
  3. Cut out fire safety tips and glue on the doilies.  Glue the doilies and fire safety tips on the plastic lids.
  4. Cut pipe cleaners into small pieces.
  5. Attach plastic lids with pipe cleaner pieces to form the quilt.

Sample safety messages:

  • Hot things hurt
  • Don't play with matches
  • Don't touch lighters
  • Tell a grown-up if you find something dangerous
