Lesson Plan: Electric? Poetry
First/Second Grade
Identify and work to eliminate electrical safety hazards in the home.
Objectives
Electric? Poetry is designed to ask "personal" questions about electrical appliances or electrical words that the students might like to know more about. It is again designed to raise the awareness of the many, many electrical appliances in today's world.
Preparation
Download and copy the Electric? Poetry worksheet.
Procedure
Demonstrate the creation of an Electric? Poem by reading the example below. Each poem asks four questions. The pattern of rhyming is AABB. When writing the poem, students should:
- Pretend that the appliance is alive.
- Ask four sensitive questions.
- End with a question that sounds as if you are finished.
Note: The subject could be about anything electric. The challenge will be for the student to come up with four questions that give personality to the subject.
