Lesson Plan: Electrical Card ID
First/Second Grade
Identify outdoor electrical safety hazards.
Preparation
- Download photos of electrical and non-electrical items. Glue or fasten each photo to a 4x8" inch piece of card stock.
- Introduce the concept of electricity by explaining to the children that electricity is an invisible and powerful force. Children must recognize it and leave electrical items alone.
- Show the children one card at a time. Talk about each item.
- Does electricity make it work?
- What clues help show an item is run with electricity?
- Which items in the pictures are run with electricity?
- Which items are found outdoors?
- Which items are found indoors?
Procedure
- Hold up the photo cards.
- Identify which items are run by electricity and are for grown-ups.
- Students also identify which items are safer for children to play with.
