Blocks

Preparation

  1. Download photos of electrical and non-electrical items. Glue or fasten each photo to a 4x8" inch piece of card stock.
  2. Introduce the concept of electricity by explaining to the children that electricity is an invisible and powerful force. Children must recognize it and leave electrical items alone.
  3. Show the children one card at a time. Talk about each item.
    • Does electricity make it work?
    • What clues help show an item is run with electricity?
    • Which items in the pictures are run with electricity?
    • Which items are found outdoors?
    • Which items are found indoors?

Procedure

  1. Hold up the photo cards.
  2. Identify which items are run by electricity and are for grown-ups.
  3. Students also identify which items are safer for children to play with.

The cards may be sorted several ways:

  • Electrical Items: Get Grown-ups to Help!
  • Safer Items for Children's Play Indoor Electrical Items
  • Safer Items for Children's Play Outdoor Electrical Items
