Always leave fireworks to professionals. This includes sparklers, which can get as hot as 1200°F. Sparky recommends that you attend only public fireworks displays put on by trained professionals and stay back at least 500 feet from the display. If you find fireworks, don't pick them up; tell a grown-up right away. Here's a fun and safe way to play with something sparkly on the Fourth of July. Make your own fireworks art!
Fireworks Art Project*
What you need: various colors of liquid, non-toxic tempera paint, all-purpose glue, water, poster board or construction paper, plastic straws, glitter
What to do:
- For each color of paint, mix 2 parts paint to 1 part glue in a small bowl or cup. Add a little water to thin out mixture.
- Pour about a tablespoon of each color onto the paper.
- Holding the straw a few inches above the paint, blow through the straw with a blast of air. This will spread the paint on the paper like a colorful firework display. (Do not put straw into paint and make sure you blow out through the straw.)
- Add glitter to make fireworks sparkle.
- Let dry and display.
*Adult supervision is suggested for this activity. |
